Historical
& Genealogical Services
Genealogical & Historical
Research
Prairie Roots Research
specializes in Iowa & Midwestern research, including
state & federal census, vital records, military, wills &
probates, land records, church records, cemeteries, local
histories and more.
We travel throughout Iowa and surrounding states to
conduct a personalized search of often-overlooked local
resources in addition to utilizing the extensive
collections
of the Iowa State Archives and other research
libraries/repositories located in Des Moines.
Need a simple record search? We are happy to conduct a
simple search for you at a reduced fee. This service is for
those clients who know exactly what resource they need to
search, but who are not able to access the records
personally. A record search is less expensive per hour than
full research services because we do not spend time
analyzing the document for you. We conduct the search, make
copies or transcriptions of the findings, then send you the
results. Turnaround time is usually 7 to 10 business days.
See our
Schedule of Fees for
details.
Writing Services
Prairie Roots Research provides thoroughly documented
compilations, reports, genealogical and historical
narratives, and manuscript editing services. It is our
pleasure to assist clients in compiling family histories
over several generations, placing a family's story into
historical context and committing that story to print for
the benefit of future generations.

deserve to be preserved. Let us identify, research and catalog your
collection, and help you choose the best archival method to

Genealogical
Standards
At Prairie Roots Research we
are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of
scholarship and ethics. We adhere to the Genealogists'
Code of Ethics as
published by the
Association of Professional
Genealogists. You should accept nothing less
than this level of excellence in any researcher you select
for your family history project.
Research Fees
Prairie Roots Research
charges an hourly fee with an initial non-refundable
retainer for a minimum of two hours
research. Copy costs
and other actual expenses incurred are in addition to the
hourly fee. We will not proceed without clearly identified
objectives and parameters as defined in a client contract.
Our initial
consultation will help you identify your objectives, which
will be defined in the contract, along with the maximum
number of hours or dollars that you choose to spend on
achieving those goals. You will be billed for the amount
actually incurred. See our
Schedule of Fees for full details.
Achieve
your Objectives
The best way to achieve your family history objectives with
a minimum of expense is to provide your researcher with as
much initial information as possible. It is helpful to share
copies of any family group charts, Bible records,
birth, marriage, death records, etc. that may already be in
your possession.
Visit our Research
page for tips on how to make the most of the
information you may already have.
